Locals will be able to see the famous Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Lancaster bomber take to the skies over South Warwickshire this June.

Warwick District Council is "delighted" to confirm the Second World War aircraft will fly over the local area on Saturday 28 June as part of the annual Armed Forces Day.

The free event will take place at the Pump Rooms from 11am to 3pm as a celebration of current and former armed forces personnel.

The aircraft was due to fly over the area last summer, but was cancelled following the death of Sqn Ldr Mark Long in a crash in Lincolnshire which saw the BBMF grounded.

The council said timing of the flypast is to be confirmed and is also dependent on the weather.

"Come and join us for our Armed Forces Day Community Event in Warwick District as a thank you to current and former serving members of the Armed Forces and their families," the council website said.

"This annual event, a staple event in the District's calendar, builds on the success of previous years, with recognition of the Armed Forces and the contributions that our allies have made in past conflicts, and continue to make and strengthen.

"The event is completely free, with activities, information, performances and displays aimed at families, individuals, military enthusiasts and current and former serving members of the Armed Forces."
