Have plans for new CCFC stadium on edge of Kenilworth been forgotten?
Town councillors have welcomed the fact plans for a new football stadium on the edge of Kenilworth appear to have been forgotten.
Updating members at the most recent Kenilworth Town Council meeting, Cllr Peter Jones highlighted the apparent omission of the proposed new home for Coventry City Football Club in the University of Warwick's new planning document.
Locals are being asked to feed back on a number of schemes at the Westwood campus, which will run until 2033.
The huge document features five major projects, including a new social sciences quarter and new energy innovation centre.
And while plans for the new eco park continue to be explored, the document does not make reference to the new football stadium.
Having attended a briefing from the university, Cllr Jones updated the most recent Kenilworth Town Council meeting: "They didn't mention the new football stadium they were talking about a few years ago, which appears to have been dropped, much to my relief."
Plans to build a new home for the Sky Blues at the University of Warwick were revealed back in July 2020, but very little has been shared on the scheme since.
New club owner Doug King had launched a last-minute bid to buy the club's current Coventry Building Society Arena home before it was ultimately sold to former Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.
He has previously stated he wants the club to own the CBS Arena.
Plans for the eco park, which would be on the south side of campus, were revealed in June 2021.
The 48-hectare eco park will be open to the public as well as students and university staff.
See the university's full planning documents here.
The University of Warwick has been approached for comment.
