Designs for a new viaduct that will carry the new HS2 line over the River Avon have been given the green light.

Warwick District Council has approved the designs for the 140 metre structure at Stoneleigh, between the business park and Ashow Road.

Plans state the River Avon Viaduct will be a four-span bridge.

"The viaduct is required to carry the HS2 railway over the River Avon, between the Agricultural Centre Embankment (to the south) and the Glasshouse Wood Embankment (to the north)," the application explained.

"The viaduct consists of a 140m long steel concrete composite superstructure supported on bearings above reinforced concrete abutments and central piers."

The HS2 Act decrees the bridge will be built, with the council only able to comment on certain design elements.

The plans were signed off at the start of February.

"The proposals have been carefully considered and designed to deliver a scheme that preserves the local environment and local amenity while meeting HS2's operational, maintenance, safety, efficiency, buildability and best value requirements," the application continued.
