Green light for speed hump to take new Kenilworth cycle path along busy road

A new speed hump will be installed to help carry a new cycle path along Kenilworth's Glasshouse Lane.
Designs for the crossing on Heyville Croft were signed off on Monday (July 14), after a public consultation was held earlier this year.
The hump will be a “priority crossing” for cyclists and pedestrians with the cycle path due to run alongside the footpath.
“The proposed cycle route will make it easier for people to walk, wheel and cycle for short local journeys and will also tackle congestion, improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions, and support an increase in physical activity,” a Warwickshire County Council (WCC) report said.
“Furthermore, the presence of the proposed road humps at the priority junctions of Glasshouse Lane/Aldridge Way and Heyville Croft/Glasshouse Lane would act as a visual and physical reminders for drivers to exercise caution and encourages them to slow down and maintain control of their vehicle to give priority to cyclists and pedestrians.
“This would reduce the risk of accidents and collisions between drivers and cyclists/drivers.”
A decision was supposed to be made by new new portfolio holder for transport and planning, Cllr Nigel Golby but was instead made by interim council leader Cllr George Finch in his absence.
At the decision making meeting, Cllr Richard Dickson asked whether there would be red triangle warning signs near the crossing to warn drivers of the possibility of encountering cyclists and pedestrians.
Cllr Finch confirmed this would be the case and said a road safety audit would also be carried out when the scheme is completed.
WCC has also consulted residents on another section of the path further along Glasshouse Lane, at the junction with Stansfield Grove where a new roundabout will eventually be built.
