Hundreds of residents headed to the centre of Kenilworth for the town's first Clean Air Day on Sunday (June 16).

Abbey End was taken over with stalls, food and drink, and activities, as the Kenilworth Town Council-organised event looked to promote active travel and raise awareness of improving air quality.

An active travel loop was created through the centre of town, encouraging locals to get on their bikes, scooters or even out on foot on the closed roads.

With the weather holding out for the day, hundreds attended the event, with organisers saying there had been very positive feedback.

One of the organisers, Cllr Alison Insley told Nub News: "Clean Air Day, the very first one in Kenilworth, has gone absolutely amazingly.

"The turnout is spectacular. We have got people walking, cycling on all different sorts of bikes. There is food, there is free bike hire and everyone is enjoying it and I have been told it feels like a village, like a community environment, nothing but praise from people.

"It is fantastic and thankfully the weather has been great."

Highlights of the day included music from Chaos covers bank, which was 'pedal powered' with guests cycling for the duration of a song.

Other two-wheeled stalls included the bike propelled smoothie machine and light up bulb challenge.

"We have been planning this for a few months and all in all, the hard work has paid off. Early mornings, late nights, lots of meetings to make sure it happens and thankfully the community has all pulled together," Cllr Insley added.

"So a massive thanks to all the sponsors, all the people who have given their time and energy and financial support.

"If people think this has been a success, we would love to run it again."
