Gallery: a look inside Balsall Common's brand new Aldi

Aldi has officially opened its new store in Balsall Common, welcoming customers through its doors for the first time on Thursday morning.

The supermarket on Kenilworth Road opened at 8am, with Paralympic silver medallist sprinter Ali Fewins joining store manager Malcolm Upton and his team for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

As part of the opening celebrations, the first 30 shoppers received complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi's popular Super 6 range.

The new store will be run by Mr Upton and a team of 30 colleagues recruited from the local community.

Ali Fewins said: "I'm so excited to be opening Aldi's new store; it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of ParalympicsGB."

Customers can shop Aldi's range of fresh British meat, Specially Selected products, exclusive beers, wines and spirits, as well as a Food to Go section and the retailer's popular Specialbuys.

The opening forms part of Aldi's continued expansion across the UK, with the retailer recently named the UK's cheapest supermarket for 2025 by consumer group Which? for the fifth consecutive year.

The store is also encouraging local charities and food banks to sign up to community platform Neighbourly, allowing them to collect surplus food and perishable products, including fruit, vegetables and baked goods, seven days a week.

The Aldi store on Kenilworth Road is open from 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
