After discovering he couldn't purchase a local author's debut novel, an old lottery ticket fortuitously became a local man's means to buy it!

Douglas experienced an unexpected stroke of luck after checking a lottery ticket he had forgotten about.

During a visit to author Karen Storey's showcase of novel 'The approval of sheep' at Kenilworth Books, Douglas mentioned that he would purchase her book if he won the lottery.

He explained that he was without cash or cards and so couldn't buy her book then and there.

But Douglas did explain to Storey that he had an unchecked lottery ticket in his pocket.

"I smiled as he left, thinking that was an amusing way to tell me he didn't want to buy my book" Storey recounted.

Ten minutes later, Douglas was back.

"I'll have that book now please, with a dedication to me" Douglas said.

He'd just won £160 with that old ticket!

After sharing this on social media, author Karen Story, received over 8,000 views on Instagram in just two days, with many feeling moved and inspired by the story.
