Flying Scotsman, arguably the most famous British steam engine, has been photographed passing near Kenilworth over the weekend.

Having already travelled from London Paddington to Oxford yesterday (March 13), Flying Scotsman then passed through Warwickshire to Dorridge before returning to Oxford.

A diesel engine was used for some of the journey to and from Solihull.

The first photograph - sent to Nub News by Kenilworth resident Ken Chitty - shows Flying Scotsman going north through Hatton North Junction.

And the second captures the express departing from Leamington on the return journey to Oxford.

Owned by the National Railway Museum, Flying Scotsman returned to steam in 2016, pulling the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express from Carnforth to Carlisle on February 6.

She is expected to withdraw from mainline service later this year to complete an overhaul before her centenary in 2023.

Those who missed seeing Flying Scotsman this weekend will have a second chance to see mainline steam action this weekend, as The William Shakespeare makes it way to Stratford-Upon-Avon on Saturday.
