Eleven days of roadworks have begun today as the county council replaces the traffic lights at a busy Kenilworth crossroads.

Warwickshire County Council announced last November that the High Street/New Street junction traffic lights in Kenilworth would be replaced, alongside three sets in Leamington Spa.

The works in Kenilworth, which begin today, are expected to be completed by March 25.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place during the next 11 days.

Replacing the four sets will cost £455,000 with the money coming from a Department for Transport grant to the county council.

All four sets will be upgraded and have new LED signal heads installed.

A report from county council transport officer Gafoor Din explained: "Transport is the single largest cause of carbon emissions in the UK.

"Securing funding for traffic signal maintenance and upgrading existing infrastructure will enable us to ensure that the existing traffic signal junctions are working more effectively in order to reduce congestion thereby contributing to the reduction in carbon emissions as well as improved air quality."

More information on local roadworks and delays can be found on the WCC website.
