HS2 is asking the council to sign off on updated plans for a new viaduct which was signed off two years ago.

Warwick District Council granted planning permission for Dalehouse Embankment and Finham Brook Viaduct in early 2024.

The 55m-long embankment and 50m-long viaduct will be built on open fields north of Dalehouse Lane and Kenilworth Golf Course.

But now HS2 has asked council planners to give the green light to updated designs which include several features missed from the original plans.

One of the things missed was 'replacement flood storage' areas which are needed to "mitigate for the loss of floodplain volume" due to the embankment and viaduct.

A replacement flooding area has now been included on each side of the embankment.

Other additions include maintenance access, drainage ditches, security fencing and other minor design changes.

"The viaduct has been through an extensive design development process to ensure a carefully considered, high quality design that preserves the local environment and local amenity is proposed," the application said.
