Firefighters were called to a fire in Kenilworth's Abbey Fields last night (July 28).

Crews were in the town centre park for around half an hour tackling the grass fire.

A cause of the blaze has not been confirmed. Locals have speculated on social media it was caused by a barbecue.

A service statement to Nub News said: "Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service was alerted on Tuesday 28 July at around 9:15pm to reports of a field fire at Abbey Fields in Kenilworth.

"On arrival our crew discovered a small fire in grassland which they promptly extinguished using hose reels.

"WFRS had one appliance in attendance at this incident who were on scene for around 30 minutes."
