Emergency services were called to a major crash in South Warwickshire this afternoon, with firefighters needed to tackle a fire involving both vehicles.

Warwickshire Police issued an alert at around 3pm today (April 4) following the collision at the roundabout for A429, B4086, and Charlecote Road.

The force said the Wellesbourne road is likely to be closed for a long period of time, with one person reported to have "sustained injuries".

"Fire, ambulance, and police are in attendance, but the roads are likely to remain closed for some time," the force said.

"Please find alternative routes where possible. Thank you for your patience."

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service added: "Fire crews from Stratford, Gaydon and Kenilworth are attending a two vehicle collision on Wellesbourne Bypass near to the university campus.

"Both vehicles have been involved in fire.

"The road is currently closed in both directions."

No update has been given on whether the road has reopened yet.
