Shoplifting and crimes in Kenilworth town centre have declined, a report to the town council has revealed.

The update from Kenilworth Safer Neighbourhood team said while there has been an increase in some incidents elsewhere in the town, Warwick Road has seen fewer crimes over the summer holidays.

"Thefts from shops...has declined a great deal," the report to Kenilworth Town Council said.

"We are thinking this could be down to a few things, such as Retail Initiative DISC, (which we have reported on previously) where suspects are being identified in a quicker fashion and being dealt with at Courts and having a dedicated theft team to respond to incidents.

"Equally important is the continued presence that PCSOs Craig and Sharlene have in the town centre as a visual deterrent to potential offenders and the increased use of retail radio."

Although the report did admit the lower figures could be as a result of stores not reporting all incidents.

The report also noted there have been more reports of criminal damage and violence in Abbey Ward and the more populated parts of town.

Earlier this year SNT had seen an increase in shoplifting and incidents in Kenilworth town centre.
