Detailed plans to build 99 homes in Kenilworth on a site formerly earmarked for education look set to be given the go-ahead.

Outline planning permission for the major housing estate between Glasshouse Lane and Crewe Lane was given outline approval in December 2020 after Warwick District Council's planning committee was told that the land was no longer needed for one of the town's new schools.

And council planners have now recommended that a reserved matters application for the scheme be approved at next Wednesday's planning meeting.

A council report said: "The proposal represents a high quality scheme which is acceptable in overall terms including in respect of the integration of built development within the surrounding landscape and the site provides additional benefits in securing appropriate linkages with the adjacent sites to provide a comprehensive development across the overall allocation."

The scheme includes a mix of one to five-bed houses.

But concerns have been raised by Kenilworth Town Council which objected to the application.

Town councillors said there was not enough information on sustainability or low energy housing and members raised concerns about safe access to the site - off Glasshouse Lane - particularly for cyclists.

The council had also questioned why there were not enough bungalows and affordable houses, but updated plans now include seven bungalows and 40 affordable houses.

The application will be discussed on Wednesday, August 17.
