Delayed glamping site next to Resorts World closer to becoming reality

A glamping site next to Resorts World is inching closer to becoming a reality despite a delay.
The NEC Group was given permission to build a site last year.
The ambitious plans are for 59 pods housing 236 guests on land close to Pendigo Lake, opposite the Resorts World complex.
The plans also include a reception modular building with multi-functional spaces, offices, storage and plant room; a drop-off parking area, service yard and vehicular access; communal areas and "enhancement of woodland and woodland glade".
Guests would be able to use a new app for keyless entry and there would be a free golf buggy to get around the resort.
CGI images used in the original application also featured a spa, sauna, steam room and hot tub.
The NEC group submitted plans to Solihull Council in June 2023 and permission was granted last February.
But the opening is behind schedule as the applicant previously said the target completion date would be the end of 2024.
The authority's website has been updated to show the progress made on the application.
The NEC group has asked officers at the authority for preparatory conditions – which featured in the planning permission agreement – to be signed off.
And an application to formally discharge condition 7 (drainage) was signed off by council officers on February 25.
The consultation on an application to formally 'discharge' conditions 5 (cycle parking), 6 (CMP), 10 (LEMP), 11 (external lighting) and 12 (materials) – submitted to the authority last August – has ended with officers still yet to issue a decision on those.
Once all conditions have been met work on the glamping site will be able to begin.
The National Exhibition Centre and Resorts World Arena are based at the resort.
Both are run by the NEC Group, as well as the Resorts World shopping and leisure complex.
AvantGlamp helps set up places for fancy camping and is also working with the NEC Group on the project.
