Crime in Kenilworth at three-year low - latest data shows
The number of crimes reported in Kenilworth was at its lowest point in three years at the end of 2023, according to data from Police.uk.
Quarterly crime figures show 218 crimes were reported in the town between October and December 2023, the lowest number since the 232 recorded at the end of 2021.
Data shows reported crimes in the town peaked in the summer of 2022, with 335 crimes.
Since then, the number of reported incidents locally has fallen month on month.
The data - which is the most up to date released - comes as local police reported a spike in shoplifting before Christmas and burglaries at the start of 2024.
In total some 2,994 crimes have been reported in Kenilworth since April 2021.
Of those nearly 3,000 crimes 31 per cent resulted in no suspect being identified, and a further 36.5 per cent were left with police "unable to prosecute suspect".
Violence and sexual offences made up nearly a third of the incidents reported, by anti-social behaviour the second-most reported type of offence.
Police have recently appealed for locals to report more incidents to them, saying they need help in catching criminals.
Speaking at the most recent Kenilworth Community Forum, PCSO Craig Ricardo implored residents to make sure they alert police to all incidents, no matter how small.
"We need help, we the police need help. If we aren't told about things, we cannot act," PCSO Ricardo told the forum.
"I am not naïve, I am not silly. These are stats of crimes reported.
"There are a lot more crimes than what you can see, but people don't report them.
"People stop me in the street all the time to say 'did you hear about so and so, they got done the other day' and I ask 'did they report it?'
"The answer is always no. We get this all the time."
