Town councillors have called for better communication and coordination for road closures around Kenilworth, which they said threaten to "isolate" the town.

Speaking at this week's Kenilworth Town Council meeting Cllr Adrian Marsh renewed calls for the county council, HS2 and other contractors to make sure there is joined up thinking around local roadworks.

He said the council continues to "go over old ground" as it calls for better coordination.

"I am concerned that three months we requested HS2, BBV and Warwickshire County Council ensure there is a coordinated approach to road closures," Cllr Marsh said.

"We expressed at the forum in December yet again the concern that there is an uncoordinated approach to this."

He added: "I would suggest we request we ask for them to respond about what they are doing to coordinate road closures.

"Because not only does it impact on the works of HS2, there are significant infrastructure works in the highways taking place which could lead to Kenilworth being isolated.

"I have had a number of people complain to me about the road closures."

The Liberal Democrat councillor's words came after an update from KTC leader Cllr James Kennedy who said the expected 13-month closure of Dalehouse Lane for the new bridge to be installed is due to start in early 2025.

Other closures are also predicted for the Coventry Road and A46 for the high speed rail project.

But with road closures within the town confirmed for the coming weeks to allow for new National Grid power cables to be installed, Cllr Richard Dickson said there was an immediate need for action.

"Because of the works by Balfour Beatty on behalf of National Grid between March and the end of June, there is going to be even more traffic disruption right across town, from Leyes Lane across to the Oaks Road cemetery," he added.

"So it is absolutely vital that is communicated and coordinated effectively."
