Councillors aiming to boost local tourism so Kenilworth is more than a 'best kept secret'
Local councillors have said the days of wanting Kenilworth to be a "best kept secret" are over, and are working hard to boost tourism to the town.
With English Tourism Week beginning tomorrow (March 17) Kenilworth Town Council's tourism working group is shining a light on local attractions to increase visitor numbers.
The group, which includes councillors and local volunteers, was launched in 2019 to promote Kenilworth as a go-to visitor destination.
It has helped launched four trail maps across the town including the 'The Mystery of Abbey Fields' walk which takes things further by inviting visitors to solve puzzles and decode clues, bringing a flavour of the Da Vinci Code to Kenilworth.
All the trails are available as leaflets or on the council's website and a new route - The Romantic Nature Trail - is set to be uploaded tomorrow (March 17).
Group member Cllr Alix Dearing said the work has been especially important as the town opened up after the Covid-19 lockdowns.
"Within Kenilworth we have many great places for visitors to go to and to stay," she said.
"These include, obviously, the castle, our green spaces, our theatres, our restaurants, pubs, cafes and shops and also the many community events organised throughout the year that place in the town. We also have several local hotels, B&Bs and Airbnb accommodation.
"So we're much looking forward to this month's English Tourism Week.
"Gone are the days when we wanted Kenilworth to be a "best kept" secret. Visitors are welcome here."
The group has also helped to launch a new website providing local information and a space for local events to be advertised.
And if planning permission is granted, new pedestrian wayfinding will be installed across the town this year.
