A Kenilworth councillor is 'delighted' that the county council has signed off on a £100,000 project to improve a cycling link in Kenilworth.
The scheme will be paid for from the second round of HS2 Road Safety Fund payments which are also being used for a number of safety projects around the county - totalling nearly £600,000.
Warwickshire County Council will use a portion of this pot to improve the link between the Coventry Road Kenilworth Greenway bridge and the cycle path along the A429 Coventry Road.
Currently there is a missing piece of about 100 metres which forces cyclists onto the road or pavement - and to cross the carriageway if they are coming from Coventry.
The scheme was approved by the council last Wednesday, alongside a £30,000 budget to improve the Windy Arbour/Leyes Lane junction in the town centre.
Speaking to Nub News after the decision, town and district councillor Cllr Andrew Milton welcomed the announcement.
"This gap was identified as a priority by Kenilworth Town Council's cycling group which is made up of councillors and residents, so I'm delighted that WCC have agreed to progress this application for funding," he said.
"Having good quality cycling infrastructure is vital to encourage more people to travel regularly by bike - a great answer to both the climate crisis and the current cost of living crisis.
"Things move slowly but I'm glad to see the efforts of the local community to make their voices heard begin to pay off."
The county council is also currently asking for residents feedback on plans to convert the Clarke's Avenue / Farmer Ward Road bridge to dual cycling and pedestrian use.
