One thousand leaflets will be handed out to residents moving into one of the hundreds of new-build houses being built across Kenilworth, thanks to a new initiative from Kenilworth Town Council (KTC).

Last week councillors approved a £1,000 budget for the project which aims to welcome new homeowners to the local area, and signpost them to important features of the town.

Featuring details of local places of worship, social groups, medical centres and a calendar of community events, the new 'Welcome to Kenilworth' leaflets are hoped to be ready by the middle of the year.

"There is a lot of work still to be done over the next month, writing copy, honing it down into something that is useful but not too long, because that adds to the cost and to the amount of time until it can be signed off," Cllr Richard Dickson said at the last KTC meeting.

"This will need to come back in its draft format to a town council for approval."

The leaflets are hoped to be printed by a local firm, and will be sent to local housing developers to include in welcome packs for buyers.

"KTC also recognised that, In the next five to10 years, more than 2,000 new properties will be built in the town," a council report added.

"Many of these, albeit not all, will be occupied by residents new to Kenilworth and will be on the edge of the town.

"So there is a risk that residents of feeling isolated and unconnected to community life in Kenilworth.

"In addition to the new properties, approximately 400 existing Kenilworth properties are sold each year (source: Rightmove) and more than 600 new tenants of rented properties."
