The licence for a popular Henley pub is set to be discussed again by councillors just months after stricter rules were imposed on it.

In March, the Nags Head was told it must give the district council a month’s notice before hosting an outdoor event and would be limited to just three a year.

The High Street pub has since appealed the decision by Stratford-upon-Avon District Council, with the case due to be heard at Magistrate’s Court later this year.

This has meant the pub has been allowed to operate under its previous licence agreement.

The pub said before the previous panel it was "fulfilling a need in Henley" and is the only premises able to host the "historic and long standing" Henley music festival.

But since then the pub’s designated permit supervisor - who is responsible for the licence - has had to accept a caution from the council for breaching the terms of the licence.

A council report said Ms Dilla Scott failed to notify the authority of changes to the layout of the premises - a new £60,000 outdoor space - and of her correct address. 

“These offences have been dealt with separately to this decision and Ms Scott has accepted a simple caution for these offences,” the report said.

But following that, the pub has applied to vary its licence to address the issues, including adding her new address and the new plan for the pub.

The council was due to discuss the application at the start of September but the meeting was deferred until Friday (October 20) so the council could seek legal advice on who could be involved in the process.

Objections have been raised to the application, including from neighbours Joseph Evans and Elizabeth Skinner.

"I would like the panel sitting on the new licence variation hearing to take into consideration the noise issues and crowd disbursement issues we have experienced living in close proximity to this public house," their objection said.

"The noise level from the erection of the outside garden speakers has been the bane of our lives since their introduction [in] early summer 2022.

"Added to this the frequency of outside live music events which has directly impacted our lives.

"We have enjoyed living in Henley for the last 11 years in our current house with no issues from the Nags Head regarding noise until late spring/early summer 2022.

"It became an untenable situation for us as a family."
