An extension to a village home may have to be pulled down after council planners refused a retrospective application for the works.

Plans submitted to Warwick District Council (WDC) show the two-storey side and rear extension were built at the home on Hilltop Close near Fen End between 2019 and 2021.

While the property had been given planning permission for an extension in 2018, what was actually built was bigger than the project agreed.

In fresh plans submitted to WDC the applicant said what had been built was still appropriate for the building.

"As the extension remains subservient to the original dwelling and respects the scale and character of the area, it does not result in an inappropriate degree of massing, nor does it conflict with the five fundamental purposes of the green belt," it said.

However, council planners disagreed and refused the retrospective application: "It is therefore considered that the development seeking approval would represent development which is a disproportionate addition over the size of the original dwelling.

"It is considered that this would meet the definition of inappropriate development in the green belt."

One local had objected to the scheme saying the extension impacted their privacy, but council planners disagreed saying "it is unlikely that the development would result in an unacceptable impact on neighbouring amenity".

The applicant has the right to appeal the decision.
