A section of footpath in Abbey Fields will close today for nearly two weeks, as construction works on the town's new swimming pools gets underway.

Warwick District Council (WDC) announced in March that work on the new leisure centre was due to start once again, following months of delays.

Now the local authority has informed locals that a section of footpath between the construction site for the new Abbey Fields Swimming Pools and the lake will be closed from Monday 15 to Friday 26 April.

"This is to allow for the installation of a replacement path to improve access for park users while the building work for the new swimming facilities is in progress," a WDC statement said.

"Please note that it will not be possible to cross Abbey Fields directly via the duck feeding station to and from Abbey Hill, Castle Farm, Abbey End, Castle Hill and the High Street during this time.

"The temporary toilets will also be closed on these dates.

"The council apologises for any inconvenience caused."

The construction of the new pools - which is being managed by Kier - is now expected to take until the summer of 2026.

The project is also set to cost WDC £22 million.
