Tributes have been paid to an "incredibly sweet" Warwickshire police dog which has died.

Warwickshire Police confirmed today (February 17) "with a heavy heart" that Police Dod (PD) Koko was suddenly taken ill in the last few weeks.

"Alongside her human colleague PC Susnik, she had been protecting the people of Warwickshire for nearly eight years," a force statement said.

"PD Koko is remembered for detaining countless suspects, finding numerous pieces of evidence that would have otherwise been missed and for having an impressive ability to track down hedgehogs and the postman!

"She was incredibly sweet – and quite possibly the cleverest dog of all time."
