A chain pub in Kenilworth's town centre has at last been given a five-star hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency.

The Green Man on Warwick Road had received back to back two-star ratings, in April and October 2023.

The pub had said last spring it "immediately acted on feedback" to improve its rating, before being given the same score at the end of the year.

However, following a recent inspection, the Ember Inn pub has now received the perfect score.

A five-star review means the venue's hygiene standards are very good and fully comply with the law.

To get the top rating, businesses must do well in all three elements of an inspection.

This includes how hygienically the food is handled, the physical condition of the business and how the business manages ways of keeping food safe through training and processes.

The Green Man received a 'good' rating in all three of these categories in its most recent inspection.

One of around 150 Ember Inn pubs across the country, the venue is managed by Mitchells and Butlers.

Following the October 2023 inspection, the pub's management was told by inspectors: "The wall covering by the rear door and around the sink unit in the glass wash area was dirty in area."

The inspector also found there was no hot water across the kitchen area, in particular the raw meat station.

But the report noted: "I am advised that there was a fault with the boiler pump which affected the hot water being distributed to the kitchen area of the premises.

"I welcome the prompt response taken by management to resolve this issue."
