CCTV has been installed on the roads into Kenilworth to stop HS2 lorries cutting through the town centre.

A report presented to councillors last night revealed that a number of residents had made complaints about HGVs driving into town.

And following a meeting with the high speed rail developers, Kenilworth Town Council was told that the drivers involved were no longer working for HS2.

"Our contact with HS2 has been extremely, extremely helpful with this," said Cllr Kate Dickson.

"She has enlisted Warwick District Council's CCTV team and the haulage companies have been told.

"And the group of drivers who chose to use their satnavs not the approved routes, we have assurances that those drivers, and their friends who followed, are no longer working for HS2 – they have been stopped.

"All the hauliers have been warned that CCTV is watching all the roads going into town and monitoring for HS2 traffic and the same thing will happen to them if they used unapproved routes."

Cllr Dickson also told members that if residents managed to take photographs of HS2 lorries driving through town, these would be forwarded to HS2.

The announcement comes just a week after planning permission to allow 400 lorries a day through Balsall Common was refused.

HS2 had been branded as bad neighbours in the village, with residents saying the company was not respecting the basic rights of local people.
