Canley Brook likely to be diverted 200m for HS2 bridge

Canley Brook will be diverted around 200 metres for a new HS2 bridge to be installed, fresh plans have shown.
The high speed rail developer has submitted updated plans for its Canley Brook Viaduct to Warwick District Council, asking for a number of "minor" design changes.
Plans show the four-span bridge will be 45 metres long and will carry the new rail line over the diverted brook.
As HS2 has said previously, the 200 metre diversion is actually a lot shorter than the 1.1km rerouting that was initially planned.
Canley Brook will be diverted near the A429 Kenilworth Road.
"This design choice for the viaduct will result in reduced land take for both construction and operation, including a reduced impact on woodland and agricultural land," the application said.
"It will also lead to reduced quantities of material required to implement the design and to maintain it in the future, minimising interference with the local landscape."
The High Speed Rail Act decrees the bridge will be built, with the local authority only able to comment on certain aspects of its designs.
A previous plan for the bridge was approved in December 2023, but HS2 has since decided to tweak the designs.
