Bid to demolish Kenilworth home of 'no architectural merit' to make way for 'sustainable' house
By James Smith 14th May 2026
Plans to demolish a Kenilworth home and replace it with an "environmentally friendly and sustainable" new house have been put forward to council planners.
An application has been submitted to Warwick District Council to flatten the existing home at Birches Wood Farm on Crackley Lane which is described as having "no particular architectural merit".
Plans show it would be replaced with a five-bedroom family home on the green belt site.
The application says the house would be the applicant's "forever home" as they aim to "build the very best they can to raise a family in".
Plans stated "sustainability has been at the core of this project from the outset".

"The proposed dwelling is a unique custom designed, self-build, 'fabric-first', environmentally friendly and sustainable new home designed to the highest standards to ensure an enhancement is achieved at the development site," the application explained.
"The overall objective for this proposed development is to take as much care as possible to minimise the impact on the environment during the design, build and ongoing running phases.
"The design has taken into account bulk, scale and mass and how this may impact on neighbouring features and the landscape setting in a wider context.
"A high level of design and detailing has been implemented within this project to ensure this dwelling creates a positive contribution to the area and results in well designed and sustainable development."
