Local historical landmark the Berkswell Windmill is set to open to the public this September.

The windmill will be open from 12pm to 4pm on Saturday, September 10 and visitors will not need to book in advance.

Having reopened to the public over Easter this year for the first time in two years, regular open days have been held throughout the summer.

As well as tours of the windmill there will be refreshments on offer and morris dancers.

The windmill was built in 1826 on the site of a former post mill.

Jeanette McGarry acquired the 19th century four-bladed tower mill back in 2005 and spent over £200,000 restoring it to its former glory with the help of English Heritage after it fell into a state of disrepair.

The maintenance involved continuous limewashing of the interior, dressing of mill stones and painting the sails with the help of a cherry picker to reach the top.

And it took three weeks to touch up the paintwork on the gigantic five tonne sails.
