The owner of a bathroom fitting company has said he now feels "fully part of the town" after turning a former Kenilworth bank into a showroom.

The old Halifax branch at The Square has been converted by Kenilworth Bathrooms after months of work at the town centre unit.

And with the shop open by appointment only, business owner Richard O'Brien explained how the showroom will be run.

"Normally a showroom has staff sitting there all the time, but we don't do that," he said.

"If you go to our website you can download a brochure that will tell you the price of your bathroom supplied and fitted, including all the elements.

"It tells you what is included, the options and then how much extra some things cost. So actually what we are finding, people are contacting us already knowing price points and what they want."

He added: "If my product and service is correct, I don't need to sell it, it will sell itself.

"All I need to do is introduce it to people. If I have got it wrong it won't work. So that is where I need to be aware of the market, price points, trends and get that right. If I do, the business will work."

Richard had been looking to open a showroom in Kenilworth for nearly five years and had looked at a number of units before taking on the Warwick Road shop.

"In reality I am very happy that none of the other shops worked out because this shop is perfect for us," he said.

"It's on the high street, it's exactly the right size for our showroom and there is a lot of footfall. It is a dream shop for me.

"When the estate agent said we had got the shop I cried because I couldn't believe we were getting that building and that I would be able to put my business into the town where I live and love. I feel now like I am part of this town."

The showroom opened for the first time this Autumn, after the firm had done all the work fitting the shop themselves.

And Richard, who launched his own bathroom business eight years ago, said he was very proud of what he has turned the space into.

"We are used to taking down walls and modifying homes but taking a bank out of a building is like breaking out of a prison," he said.

"It is incredibly tough work; it took us three days to do some things that would take us a couple of hours in a house. Layer after layer of reinforcements.

"So, there were times it was overwhelming.

"But the joy of then walking through the showroom knowing we have done that work - I am so proud of the whole process."
