Roadworks around the new Kenilworth School are still on track to be completed this autumn, the latest update from Warwickshire County Council (WCC) has confirmed.

But contractor CR Reynolds is being forced to work on weekends to make sure the safety measures next to the school are completed in time for the start of the school term in September.

The scheme - which will see new cycle lanes, toucan crossings and access roads built - began in April.

The rest of the works along Glasshouse Lane will then be completed.

The contractor is currently working on the east side of Glasshouse Lane widening the existing carriageway and installing drainage to ensure the programme remains on plan.

Glasshouse Lane is also now closed permanently for two weeks to allow the works to progress.

"Our primary focus will always be working with all parties to facilitate the schools opening on time," the report says.

Completed works to date:

  • Footpath/cycle path works completed on the west side of Glasshouse Lane with final surface course to be completed at a later date.
  • Traffic signals ducting and chambers on the west side of Glasshouse Lane.
  • Road gulleys and connections on the west side of Glasshouse Lane.
  • Site clearance on the east side of Glasshouse Lane.
  • Excavation, kerb laying, and carriageway foundations completed on widened section of Glasshouse Lane.
  • Drainage works completed on widened section.

The long-term works will include:

  • Drainage 21 June - 4 August 2023.
  • Road construction 21 June - 31 August 2023.
  • Miller Homes installation of a new foul sewer and electrical supply cables – 10 July 2023 - 25 August 2023.
  • Leyes Lane footpaths - 14 September - 6 October 2023.
  • Dencer Drive toucan crossing - permanent works October, temporary controlled crossing to be installed for the school opening.

All of the above works are being carried out under a S278 Agreement which has been signed between the developer, Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust and Warwickshire County Council.

Keep up to date with the works here.
