Photos show the moment an Argos delivery van smashed into the railway bridge at Berkswell Station yesterday (January 8).

The vehicle struck the bridge on Station Road at around 3.30pm, and was carried away on the back of a truck later the same day.

Images show the extent of the damage to the vehicle.

But Network Rail said there was no disruption to rail passengers and the bridge was not damaged.

A spokesperson said: "A collision beam on a bridge near Berkswell station did its job to protect the railway yesterday after it was hit by a delivery van.

"Fortunately it didn't cause any disruption to passengers this time but bridge strikes like these can be completely avoided.

"We'd urge drivers to always know the height and size of their vehicles and to carefully plan their routes so our infrastructure isn't put at risk in this way."

Kenilworth Nub News has contacted Argos for comment on the condition of the driver.

Network Rail recently revealed that the Balsall Common bridge is one of the most "bashed" in the country.

It was crashed into 12 times between April 2021 and March 2022, the seventh most of any bridge in the UK.
