A man has been jailed by Warwick Crown Court after subjecting a woman to an 18 month rape and torture ordeal which involved beating her with a hammer and pouring boiling water over her.

Farnaz Farabi, 28, left his traumatised victim with broken bones and scars following the series of sickening attacks.

A court heard he hit the woman with a hammer, raped her, held a knife against her throat and poured boiling water over her body during the campaign of abuse.

Police were first alerted after the woman's worried work colleagues raised concerns about facial injuries in March of this year.

An investigation was launched and cops established she had sustained a broken hand and ankle, a fractured nose, and multiple lacerations at various stages.

Farabi initially denied any wrongdoing but he eventually pleaded guilty to rape and wounding offences during a trial at Warwick Crown Court earlier this year.

Farabi, of Coventry, was jailed for 19 years on Wednesday 11 December - he will then be on extended licence for seven years.

Pc Ellis Burbidge, of West Midlands Police, said: "This was horrific physical and sexual abuse of a vulnerable woman over a sustained period of time.

"What the woman experienced was horrific.

"She has sustained extensive and permanent scarring across her body and is continuing to rebuild her life in a safe environment surrounded by support.

"This was appalling and inexcusable, and Farabi is rightly behind bars for a significant time."
