The state of potholes across Warwickshire has been rated 'amber' in a new interactive map released this week.

Warwickshire County Council (WCC) is one of 125 local highway authorities (LHA) rated amber overall.

The government has released the interactive map ahead of National Pothole Day on 15 January.

The map allows locals to see the condition of the roads in their local area, and how well their LHA is tackling potholes.

Each council is rated on a traffic light system across four categories: condition, spend, wider best practice, and overall rating.

WCC was rated in the middle tier across all four bands.

Transport secretary Heidi Alexander said, "For too long, drivers in the West Midlands have paid the price because our roads were left to deteriorate.

"We've put our money where our mouth is, increasing the funding in the West Midlands with £800 million to fix roads and given them the long-term certainty they have been asking for.

"For the first time, we are making sure the public can see how well local highway authorities are doing in delivering the improvements they want to see in their local area."

WCC said it is committed to improving road conditions and in 2025 reportedly filled over 6,000 potholes and resurfaced over 30km of carriageways.

According to the government, the average vehicle repair bill from hitting potholes is around £320.

The government hopes these long-term road repairs will save drivers money by preventing road deterioration, rather than implementing short-term fixes.

Warwickshire County Council has been approached for comment.
