An aesthetic medicine clinic, offering an alternative to plastic surgery, has opened in Kenilworth's town centre.

The former 'Top Drawer' shop on Warwick Road has become Shine Medical Cosmetic Clinic, and opened for businesses at the end of April.

The clinic is run by Dr Shyna, who left her job in the NHS to train in the field of aesthetic medicine.

Having worked at hospitals across the UK - including nearby Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry - she decided to study for her level 7 postgraduate qualification in injectables and cosmetic dermatology at Harley Academy London.

"I am a medical doctor and have worked in the NHS for around 12 years," she told Nub News.

"As my career continued I developed a passion for aesthetic medicine and completed my training at Harley Academy London.

"I got to a stage when I had to choose a speciality and started to get interested in dermatology and then I found more of an interest in the aesthetic medicine side of things.

"I then started my business by hiring a room and then saw the opportunity for the shop in Kenilworth so decided to set up here."

Dr Shyna specialises in non-surgical cosmetic treatments, which she says are becoming increasingly popular.

Treatments on offer at the Warwick Road clinic include on-surgical face lifts (HIFU Treatment), anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, Profhilo, LED light therapy, chemical peels, medical grade OBAGI skin care products.

She also said 3D power sculpting - which is popular with many celebrities - is seeing increasing demand and can be the equivalent of 20,000 crunches in just a half hour treatment - with the added benefit of no downtime after treatment.

More treatments are expected to be available soon.

"I have a real passion for helping people. Some people really struggle with the way they look, and that affects their confidence. And I want to do what I can to help them, that is what I am passionate about," Dr Shyna explained.

"The world of aesthetic medicine has helped people to avoid going under the knife, but to get the results they are looking for - and much sooner.

"There is less down time and they get what they want sooner.

"It is an alternative option to cosmetic surgery and is much more affordable."

Having decided to set up business in Kenilworth, she and her husband - who is also an NHS doctor - did most of the renovation works at the former antiques shop themselves.

A new consultation room and treatment area has been created, where Dr Shyna also offers 30 minute no obligation consultations with clients who are considering getting a cosmetic treatment.

And having taken the decision to leave her job and launch her own business, she said things were already going well.

"It was quite a big leap actually," she said.

"A lot of people are leaving to join the field, it is becoming more and more popular every day, with more healthcare professionals getting into it.

"And I love that it gives me far more flexibility with my personal life, and childcare, so I am so pleased I made the decision.

"We have already had a lot of interest. The clinic has a lot of footfall, and is in a prime location, which is leading to a lot of enquiries and people coming for treatments."
