The A46 is expected to remain closed around Kenilworth following a crash this evening (December 14).

Warwickshire Police reported the dual carriageway was closed around the Thickthorn Island following a collision involving a fuel tanker.

The dual carriageway was closed in both directions as "debris and diesel" were on the carriageway.

National Highways said in an update this evening the road is being resurfaced and will reopen "tomorrow morning".

"The vehicle involved is a fuel tanker and has leaked fuel across all lanes of the carriageway," the alert said.

"The closure is expected to remain in place overnight tonight, until tomorrow morning, for resurfacing to take place."

The road is closed between the Thickthorn Island (A452) and the A45 in Coventry.

Warwickshire Police said: "Road closures are expected to be in place for some time while we work with our partners to clear the road and make it safe.

"Please avoid the area and take an alternative route. Thank you for your patience while we attend this incident."
