A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after he crashed a stolen VW Golf into a parked car whilst being chased by police.

Officers pursued the teenage driver, who is from Stoke-on-Trent, yesterday after he failed to stop for them in Leamington Road, Ryton.

During the "short pursuit" the boy drove on the wrong side of the road before colliding with a parked car.

Police then discovered that the VW had actually been stolen from a business in Fenny Compton earlier in the year.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, burglary, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

He has been released on bail.

A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said: "Yesterday (Thursday 24 March) afternoon officers from the roads policing team tried to stop the car in Leamington Road, Ryton when it fled from them.

"During the short pursuit, officers reported the suspect drove at high speeds on the wrong side of the road before colliding with a parked car.

"Further enquiries showed the car had been stolen following a break in at a business in Fenny Compton earlier in the year.

"A 14-year-old boy from Stoke-on-Trent was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, burglary, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

"The boy was later bailed while enquires continue."

Warwickshire Police is appealing for any witnesses or anyone with footage of the pursuit who haven't already spoken to police, to contact the force.
