Nearly 1,000 Warwickshire residents have received free parking for their electric vehicles this July.

Whilst the trial scheme is yet to be made permanent, there are now 100 charging points across the county with Warwickshire County Council today announcing future plans for on-street electric vehicle charging.

Kenilworth has four council-run dual chargers available at the Abbey End car park. These have been funded by the government Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) and WCC.

A second phase of funding will shortly be available from OZEV, with WCC and Warwick District Council looking to apply for new technologies including lamp-post charging points.

WDC's portfolio holder for climate change Cllr Alan Rhead has said that the council is committed to its pursuit of green transport.

"Electric vehicles cost less to run than a petrol or diesel car," he said. "The ranges are now quite extensive, averaging around 300 miles. Given that home chargers are not feasible for everyone, we are committed to supporting residents with infrastructure to charge their vehicles as part of our climate emergency commitments."
