Local Year 9 students have helped bring together the two schools in the Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust (KMAT) for a day of sporting excellence.

Pupils at Kenilworth School and Westwood Academy joined together for an afternoon of sport on Wednesday 15 May, at the new Glasshouse Lane School.

The event was the first in a new initiative called the 'Developing Relationships Scheme' which is led by the students.

The aim of the scheme is to foster connections across the trusts' pupils, through shared interests.

KMAT CEO Hayden Abbott praised the students involved, and said enabling children of the two schools to mix is a key benefit of the trust.

"It was great to see students from both schools enjoy this first sporting event organised by student leaders in Year 9," he said.

"My thanks and congratulations are due to all students who took part and, in particular, to two Year 9 students, Ayaan and Olivia, who have worked really hard with other students and staff to bring their vision to reality.

"We are looking forward to further exciting events to enhance the partnership between our two schools in the future."

Photographs from the day show the children out enjoying the sun and making the most of the excellent new sports facilities at the school.

The event saw 30 students from The Westwood Academy and an equal number from Kenilworth School and Sixth Form, come together for a series of football matches.

The 3G pitches of Kenilworth School were abuzz as students, provided with necessary kit, including football boots courtesy of KMAT, eagerly engaged in matches organised by the P.E. department and overseen by pupils who served as referees.

The teams were mixed with students from both schools within the trust, helping to create connections, and achieving the aim set of the KMAT Developing Relationships scheme.

Year 9 student and organiser Ayaan Carvalho said: "After four months of planning, we finally managed to bring to life the first event of the developing relationships scheme.

"I had the opportunity to speak to audiences of students across both schools in preparation for launching this event.

"This experience was confidence building, teamwork building, and it resulted in a great environment where everyone worked together. I learnt a lot from this experience."

Gratitude was extended to all involved, including KMAT Staff, school staff, and pupils.

This event marks the commencement of numerous future opportunities for fostering relationships for pupils across the trust.
