GALLERY: Locals gather for D-Day 80th anniversary service in Kenilworth

Local residents and schoolchildren gathered at Kenilworth's war memorial this morning (June 6) for a short service to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The service was led by Heather Alford from St Nicholas Church who stepped in at the last minute for Rev Eira Hale.

Wreathes were laid at the memorial by The Royal British Legion, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment (who landed on D-Day), and the Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Alan Chalmers.

The fences at the top of Abbey Fields have also been decorated with knitted poppies and large cut-out poppies spelling out 'D-Day'.
