Kenilworth parliamentary candidate pledges to bring Loch Ness Monster to Abbey Fields lake
A Kenilworth parliamentary candidate has pledged to capture the Loch Ness Monster and bring it to Abbey Fields lake, if he is elected.
Official Monster Raving Loony Party Candidate Nick Blunderbuss Green has repeated his previous election policy, but says he has had to change the proposal slightly, as he had originally planned to bring the mythical creature south on HS2.
"Look at the publicity and the tourism it would bring to the area," he told Nub News.
"The hotels would be full up, coffee shops would be choc a bloc.
"You would be able to buy food for it and feed it.
"The original idea was to catch the Loch Ness Monster and bring it back on HS2 but of course they have cancelled the northern bit, so I am going to have to bring Nessie back on the back of a juggernaut in an aquarium."
Bringing Nessie to Warwickshire is one of a number of policies Blunderbuss has included in his 'Manickfesto' as he stands in Kenilworth and Southam for the third time.
Other highlights include fining ice cream vendors for selling '99' cornets for more than 99p, giving Nectar Points to all taxpayers and banning greyhound racing to "prevent the country going to the dogs".
The Monster Raving Loony candidate also says with so many double yellow lines being painted on roads, he proposes to only paint the lines where people can park, to save local authorities millions in yellow paint.
Having received 457 votes in 2019, Blunderbuss has set himself a target of nearly 1,500 votes this time around - but has not repeated his previous pledge to run through the streets of Kenilworth naked if he hits his target.
"I was going to put that in again but I had to pull it out as I was told it was in bad taste," he explained.
"I didn't agree but decided it was best to pull it out.
"But you can see on the Manickfesto the Loony policies of old which have become old.
"Votes for 18-year-olds have come in, as have pet passports, and legalisation of commercial radio."
Blunderbuss also said his campaign is aimed at trying to engage more people in politics, and has called on people who do not normally vote, to make sure they head to the polling booths on July 4.
"If I have been talking to people on my street and they just don't know who to vote for," he said.
"We are the alternative vote.
"My saying at the moment is - if you don't usually vote, please vote unusually.
"That can apply to anyone, let's get the turnout increased. We have a decent turnout in Kenilworth, but let's get that up. I just want to encourage people to vote."
Other candidates standing in Kenilworth and Southam are: Paul De'ath - UK Independence Party, Alix Dearing - The Green Party, Jacqui Harris - Reform UK, Cat Price - Labour Party, Jenny Wilkinson- Liberal Democrats and Sir Jeremy Wright - Conservative Party.
