The Talisman Theatre and Arts Centre is "excited to present" Charles Dickens' emotionally captivating masterpiece, Oliver Twist: The Play, adapted by Guy Williams.

A compelling play that balances raw intensity and heartfelt emotion, bringing to life a story of hardship and hope.

While remaining faithful to Dickens' classic novel, this adaptation introduces a unique twist — the creative energy of our Youth Theatre, directed by Caroline McCluskey.

Through "powerful movement sequences and innovative staging", the story unfolds in a visually striking way, adding depth and vibrancy to the dark and dramatic world of Oliver Twist.

This timeless classic follows young orphan Oliver as he arrives in London, only to be swept into a shadowy underworld where he encounters the cunning Fagin, a gang of thieves, and the quick-witted Artful Dodger.

Unlike the well-known musical adaptation, Guy Williams' version delves deeper into the gritty reality of 19th-century London, offering a darker, more authentic portrayal of Dickens' world.

Exploring powerful themes of poverty, crime, and cruelty, this theatrical experience promises to captivate audiences and leave you on the edge of your seat, longing for more.

Presented by the talented Talisman Youth Theatre, this exciting production boasts a "large and dynamic cast of young performers" aged 10 to 18.

"It showcases the incredible dedication, passion, and creativity of the next generation of theatre talent," the Talisman said.

Taking centre stage is Alannah Harris playing Oliver Twist, alongside Harrison Doyle as The Artful Dodger, Billy Arnold as Fagin, Jacob Wilson as Bill Sikes, Olivia Leaf as Nancy and many more talented young actors! With remarkable maturity, these young actors bravely tackle the play's complex and challenging themes, breathing life into Dickens' iconic characters.

Charles Dickens, one of the most celebrated novelists of the 19th century, is renowned for his vivid storytelling and unflinching portrayals of social injustice.

His works, including Oliver Twist, shed light on the struggles of the poor and the cruelty of Victorian society, captivating readers with memorable characters and striking themes.

Sadly, this production marks the final Youth Theatre show under the direction of the incredible Caroline McCluskey.

Caroline has dedicated the past seven years to nurturing the talents of our Youth Theatre, creating a series of memorable and impactful productions at the Talisman Theatre.

Reflecting on her time, Caroline shares: "For the last seven years, I have had the absolute privilege to work with the most amazing group of young people. Watching them develop their skills and confidence has been a pleasure, and I know they will only continue to grow from strength to strength."

Her passion, guidance, and unwavering support have left a lasting legacy, and she will be deeply missed by all. This final production is not only a celebration of Oliver Twist but also a heartfelt tribute to Caroline's remarkable contribution to the Talisman Youth Theatre.

This production would not have been possible without the outstanding choreography by Amanda Wright, whose creativity brings energy and movement to the stage, alongside the skilled guidance of James Harris in crafting the intense stage combat scenes.

Adding to the immersive theatrical experience is the expertly designed set by Steve Sanday, which will transport audiences to the streets of 19th-century London.

Looking for a night of drama and intrigue? Then this promises to be an unforgettable evening of suspense, emotion, and Dickens' timeless storytelling. This show is recommended for ages eight years and upwards at parent's discretion.

Support our amazing Youth Theatre and embark on Oliver Twist's journey to London, where Dickens masterfully unveils the murky underbelly of Victorian Britain. Experience a haunting portrayal of poverty, crime, and cruelty, brought to life on the Talisman stage.
