Two cases of the Omicron Covid-19 variant have been found in Warwickshire according to the county's director of public health.

The cases, which are linked to overseas travel, are two of the 336 confirmed across the UK.

The BBC reported that both cases in Warwickshire have been isolated, but Dr Shade Agboola has advised residents to maintain twice weekly testing and get their boosters.

"I would also like to thank the communities of Warwickshire for stepping up and getting tested. Testing remains a key tool in our armoury against the fight against Covid-19 and I would like that to continue," she said.

"I would urge everyone to take the opportunity to ensure they have had their flu and Covid-19 vaccinations - with an expanded vaccination programme we are hoping to see many more people come forward to get protected.

"This is key to reducing the spread of the virus in Warwickshire communities."

Since the first LFT site was established in December 2020 over 210,000 tests have been completed at sites across the county.

And a further 318,000 distributed home tests have helped identify 1,410 cases in the last 12 months.
