A lingerie shop which first opened in Kenilworth over 30 years ago has been fully renovated by its new owner as she looks to preserve one of the town's oldest businesses.

Lisa Gough took over at Undies Unlimited at the beginning of September 2021, opening fully to the public at the end of the month after three weeks of remodelling inside and out of the unit.

She has taken over the Millar Court shop from 86-year-old Josie King who had run Undies Unlimited since it opened in 1988.

Lisa, who was made redundant after 31 years working with the Arcadia group, heard that Josie was thinking of letting the shop go and agreed to take over the reins.

Now with completely new floors, décor, fittings and a number of new lines added, Undies Unlimited is open to the public once again.

"It's a lovely story for the town that even after all these years, the shop will keep going," said Lisa.

"For me it is so lovely both for the town to still have the shop when it has been here for so long, and so nice for Josie to know that the shop is continuing."

Lisa, who worked for the last 12 years of her career in head office, is also excited to be back working with customers again, but said it was "quite daunting" this idea of running her own business for the first time.

But in the first few weeks of trading she has already been delighted by the reception, from both new and returning customers.

Undies Unlimited even had a visit from the Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Peter Jones for an unofficial reopening.

"In the first few weeks, lots of people have come through the doors to say how happy they are to see us still trading, and how lovely the shop looks.

"I have also had lots of new customers who have come in because they have heard of new brands, so that has been lovely.

"I wanted to give people the chance to see new brands, and with a lot of department stores closing, I think its lovely for ladies in Kenilworth to still come and find a bra and have a bra fitting, where normally they would have gone for a fitting at a department store."

And whilst Lisa is pleased to be adding her own mark to the business, she also doesn't want it to lose what Josie had put into it.

Josie herself will also be helping out on Thursdays in the shop.

"Its important to keep the same name above the door and to keep selling lingerie," said Lisa.

"To hear about the shop from Josie herself and the love she has for the shop; it was really important that we kept the identity the same."
