New book by Warwickshire author uncovers century-old extraterrestrial encounters from Burton Dassett

By James Smith 1st Nov 2021

First-time author Richard Rokeby is shedding the light on the mysterious events in Warwickshire of 1923 in his debut book.

'The Lights Upon the Hills: The Burton Dassett UFO events of 1923' tells the story of hundreds of sightings of what the local press reported as 'ghosts' in the winter of 1923.

The sightings came in the hills between Northend and Avon Dassett in the south of the county, as the phenomenon captured the excitement of the local people as well as the local press.

These 'ghosts' were described as "bright, multi-coloured lights, with the power to illuminate buildings and to fly at height before disappearing at fantastic speeds."

Rather than ghostly apparitions, were they not in fact Unidentified Flying Objects?

Rokeby has painstakingly researched the events of 1923 in Burton Dassett, a history that is little-known within the UFO community.

Over the past 18 months Rokeby's work has focused on individual eye-witness accounts, as well as the historical and scientific debate around UFOs. He has explored the history of the military base enclosed by the Burton Dassett hills, and All Saints Church, both of which play a significant role in this story.

Further Rokeby possets whether the events of 1923 were indeed a standalone event, or whether extraterrestrial encounters had been occurring for many centuries, and whether they persist to this day.

Speaking to Nub News he said "I first came across the story in a book entitled 'The Ghosts of Warwickshire' and I believed the accounts had more in common with UFO reports.

"I then did my own research as I've always had an interest in the subject and I felt the story needed to be told and seen in a new light."

Rokeby holds an Advanced Certificate in Education from Canterbury Christchurch University, as well as diplomas in criminology and ufology, and has a keen interest in history and forbidden knowledge.

The Lights Upon the Hills will be published on December 1 by Flying Disk Press, and will be available directly on Amazon.
