Kenilworth Liberal Democrats have announced that the popular local community champion Alison Insley will be their candidate in the forthcoming town council by-election in St John's Ward.

Ms Insley, a Kenilworth resident of more than 30 years who is married and has a son away at university, has recently taken early retirement from her job at Warwickshire County Council Library and Information Service.

She is well-known in Kenilworth for her service as an on-call firefighter based at Kenilworth Fire Station for over five years. In this role she is also involved in the 'Hospital to Home' service, taking patients home after a stay in hospital, making sure they are safe in their own surroundings.

Ms Insley has also been active during the Covid-19 pandemic including, amongst other things, managing the lateral flow testing site in Pound Lane, Lillington and volunteering with the Covid-19 Support Kenilworth charity.

In her spare time she is a keen squash player and coach, and also a cyclist, volunteering as a ride leader for British Cycling and cycling to work.

Ms Insley said: "I am very fortunate to live in this beautiful town of Kenilworth and I would like to contribute in making it the best place in which to live, work and study and to visit.

"Kenilworth has a lot to offer and it would be my privilege, if elected as town councillor, to have the opportunity in supporting the community in making the most of the space, amenities and services."

Cllr Kate Dickson, former Liberal Democrat Mayor of Kenilworth, said: "Alison is known to lots of people in the town and I'm sure she'll bring both her work and voluntary experience and her huge energy in serving the people of St John's area as a town councillor."
