Kenilworth Round Table Santa Float raises over £5,500 for local causes

By James Smith 5th Aug 2021

Kenilworth Round Table has announced that its annual Santa float raised over £5,500 for local causes at the end of 2020 despite the Covid-19 restrictions in place.

Starting on 3 December, Santa toured the streets of Kenilworth on 11 different nights in the run up to Christmas, collecting £5,635 in donations.

This year, due to the fact that members of the round table could not knock on doors and interact with residents like normal, the group launched a JustGiving page for local people to donate to for the first time.

Kenilworth Round Table also had the support of car sales company Robins and Day who supplied the car to pull the sleigh for the three weeks.

The Santa Sleigh is one of two fundraising events done each year by the round table in Kenilworth, the second being the bonfire and fireworks night at the castle which had to be cancelled in 2020 for obvious reasons.

The money raised in December however, will allow the group to continue to support a number of local charitable causes. These range from day centres to scout groups. Individual organisations can apply for funding via the Kenilworth Round Table website.

Speaking to Nub News, Chair of Kenilworth Round Table Stuart Greenwood said: "It was really positive, all the feedback we had was great and there was a real appreciation that something was still going on.

"I think everyone just welcomed that something was going on, especially a local tradition that happens every year, and there have been a lot cancelled, so although it changed a little bit it was definitely warmly welcomed.

"It is part of what table do, we want to be doing things, we wanted to make it happen so we found solutions to make it happen in a safe way!"
