Another free art exhibition for Kenilworth in 2021 is currently available in the empty 'Poundland' unit on Warwick Road.

Organised by Jacqui Smithson and other Kenilworth Artists with the help of Becky Webb from the Kenilworth Arts Festival, the exhibition is currently displaying the work of five local creatives who are part of the group. The window will be refreshed on March 8 to give another five artists the space to exhibit their work until the beginning of April.

Currently exhibiting their work are: Paula Perry, Jacqui Smithson, Kevin Alexander, Lindsey Attwood, and Jo Ricketts.

This is not the first exhibition that Kenilworth Artists has run during lockdown. With the help of Kenilworth Arts Festival, the group has had exhibitions in the unit before, as well as the 'Art Wall' in Talisman Square that was created as part of the 'Art in the Car Park Event'.

Speaking to Kenilworth Nub News Paula Perry of Kenilworth Artists said: "We pull our exhibitions together really quickly these days – the challenges of Covid-19 have meant we've had to be speedy and adaptable with getting our art seen, but we feel it's important to lift people's spirits in these times.

"This was our inspiration, along with trying to support artists within the group, particularly those who rely on the income from their work."

Artists were not given a brief for the exhibition, they were simply asked to produce three to six pieces that they wished to display.

There is a mix of paintings, as well as sculptures; Paula has three works in the exhibition - 'Absent Friends', 'Breath of Life', and 'Sweet Memories'.

"I personally chose my three paintings because they are particularly bright and cheerful colours and reminiscent of summer, in the hope this would cheer people up!"

Seemingly, this has worked: "the reception has been really lovely, we have had some appreciative comments via our Facebook page, and when we have been putting new displays up we have had lots of interest and curiosity shown from passers-by.

"Some of the artists have also had contact from people interested in their work."

Paula also stressed the importance of these exhibitions, not only to bring some colour and enjoyment to the town, but also for the artists who rely on the income from their work. All the work on display is available for purchase, and a full list of prices can be found at the bottom of this page.

As mentioned, all of the work comes from members of Kenilworth Artists, a collective of local creatives. "Our aim," says Paula, "is to promote and exhibit the works and talent and the fantastic range of art being produced by creative people in Kenilworth.

"Our work includes painting, ceramics, furniture, glass, textiles, prints, cards and calligraphy. A taste of our work is currently on display in the former Poundland store, as well as our 'art wall' images in Talisman Square.

"Please feel free to contact any of the artists whose work you admire – we are always happy to talk about our work!"

The full list of prices for each work can be seen in the display window.
