As works begin on the A46 Stoneleigh Junction this month, Warwickshire County Council is seeking the views of Kenilworth residents over a proposed new road between the junction and University of Warwick.

The consideration of a road to the south of Coventry will investigate opportunities to improve access to the university and the existing business parks, with the aim of reducing congestion on the A45 and A46.

Plans are still in the early stages, with proposals now identified. The county council are consulting on three main options:

  1. No infrastructure improvements
  1. New link road to A429 Kenilworth Road
  1. New link road to south of Coventry and University of Warwick

The new road is part of a long-term plan for growth in this region. These plans include wider cycle networks for Warwickshire and Coventry and improved access to other methods of travelling.

The consultation will be open until 22 January 2021 and paper copies of the consultation documents can be made available on request.

Cllr Jeff Clarke, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Highways, said "The A46 Strategic Link Road Scheme is an exciting project that will bring tangible economic benefits to the County and the wider sub-region. In addition to this, it will also relieve congestion on smaller highways leading to the University of Warwick and Westwood Heath.

"I would urge as many residents as possible get involved in this consultation exercise to ensure their voices are heard and that Our communities continue to be supported by the excellent transport infrastructure that they deserve."

The £38m scheme to rebuild the junction is now underway, with funding coming from the UK Government, WCC, and the West Midlands Combined Authority.

The works between Kenilworth and Coventry will include a new bridge across the A46 and realigned slip roads forming the basis of a new signalised roundabout.
