The Cross at Kenilworth has been named as one of the top 50 gastropubs in the Estrella Damm awards this week.

Top prize was snapped up by Suffolk's The Unruly Pig whilst The Cross came in as number 50.

The Wells & Co. site has held a Michelin star since 2014, along with three AA Rosettes and also received a Good Food Award Gold Seal last year.

The Kenilworth pub restaurant is also a finalist in this year's West Midlands Tourism Awards.

Top 50 Gastropubs was conceived in 2009 with the purpose of recognising the hardworking individuals in the gastropubs industry.

The list aims to be a go-to source for the best pubs to dine at in the UK and is created by collecting votes from more than 100 industry professionals who are key people in the hospitality industry.

Liviu Arhire, restaurant manager said: "We're delighted to be named a Top 50 Gastropub again. This pinnacle award is a testament to the hard work the team put in year in, year out.

"We are proud to be in amongst such prestigious names including Tom Kerridge's two sites."

The pub's main dining room is a former school room and leads to the bar which was previously a butcher' shop, while another dining room overlooks the chefs' pass giving diners a glimpse at the buzz and thrill in the kitchen.

Dishes reflect changing seasons with high standards utilising quality produce from its suppliers.

Menu items include Cornish crab soup with fennel, crispy duck egg with celeriac and for those with a sweet tooth, pistachio ice cream with an orange Salad.

Adam Bennett, executive chef at The Cross said: "To be named in the Estella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs in the UK is a fantastic achievement.

"After being through such a tough time during lockdown, holding the business together it's great to know that we continue to impress our guests and industry professionals alike. It's also a great boost to be recognised amongst so many of our talented peers."
